From Documentary to Non-Profit
In 2023, Cal Dobbs became the first trans person to run across the country. His historic run was documented by a passionate trans crew in the upcoming documentary film TransContinental Run. Across his route, us filmmakers began a 5K series called the ‘Trot for Trans Lives’ that provided fundraisers for local trans-lead organizations, as well as some funds to keep the run going.
A year after he crossed the finish line in Orlando, Florida, we decided we needed to host a 5K at home in Los Angeles. Thus, the Trans Pride 5K was born.
And we haven’t stopped expanding since! For Trans Lives is now dedicated to creating events in both arts and athletics giving visibility and shared in-person space to trans athletes, artists, and allies.
